The Adopt-A-Kid Story

πŸ‘‹πŸ» Hey! My name is Quinn Childress, President of Friends of YRCC.

Growing up at Willow Heights, next to the Yvonne Richardson Community Center, we didn’t have much opportunity.

For most of my life, I’ve experienced living in extremely low-income environments, having no vehicle, having no family around, feeling completely alone in the world and it forced me to live life second by second. My life was spiraling downhill and there was no hope for my life to overcome the circumstances I was born in. Unfortunately, I was then kicked out in the streets of Fayetteville at the age of 15 years old.

Until one day, Divinity answered my prayer of a family to immediately take me into their home to then adopt me.πŸ’™ This was my second chance in life and I wasn’t going to mess it up. If it wasn’t for the Yvonne Richardson Community Center, the glimpse of hope to persevere through the struggle would have made me give up. But the YRCC has provided me with the proper discipline and structure to do the right thing and to never give up. This certain discipline and structure provided me enough patience to then be adopted by my parents, Tonya and Henry Childress. All of these systems in place, lead me to become the President of Friends of YRCC.

Friends of YRCC has started a campaign called the “Adopt-A-Kid” Campaign. In order to get more kids off the streets of Fayetteville, we will find and connect with the underserved children’s purpose in life, through the Yvonne Richardson Community Center. The funds raised will be allocated towards our endowment to help pay for effective programming for ages K-5 and 6-12th. Funds will also pay for college scholarships and expansion opportunities. In order to achieve our goal, we will need the funds by Dec. 31, 2022. You can also “Adopt-A-Kid” on a year-to-year basis. Our board appreciates any support and all support that you are able to provide. We can’t wait to make a difference in the lives of children in the City of Fayetteville, who need it the most and we hope that you are able to play a role in this difference. Thank you!

With love and appreciation,

Friends of YRCC
